Mildrie's Road House of Literacy in Partnership with The City of Lancaster

Mildrie’s Road Foundation is thrilled to announce the expansion of our literacy program, Mildrie’s Road House of Literacy, in partnership with The City of Lancaster. This comprehensive program is designed to support grade school through high school students, helping them improve their reading and math skills through our tutoring program, while also gaining valuable life skills.

Program Overview: Mildrie’s Road House of Literacy is committed to meeting each student exactly where they are in their academic journey. We understand that every child struggles in their own unique way, and our tailored curriculum is designed to address individual needs. By utilizing i-Ready and STAR 360 test scores, our skilled tutors can create personalized learning plans to lift the grades of each child in reading and math.

Key Components Free Enrollment: Parents can sign their children up for this program free of charge. Our goal is to make quality education accessible to all students in the community. Personalized Learning: By analyzing i-Ready and STAR 360 test scores, our tutors develop customized lesson plans that cater to each child’s specific challenges in reading and math. Life Skills and Cooking: Beyond academics, our program includes life skills training. Children will learn how to cook delicious vegan dishes, promoting healthy eating habits.

Gardening: We are excited to offer gardening classes where children will learn to grow their own vegetables and fruits. This hands-on experience not only teaches sustainability but also allows students to bring fresh produce home to their families.

MRF Bucks Store: As part of our incentive system, students can earn MRF Bucks for attending sessions, paying attention, and doing their best. These can be redeemed weekly at our store, which offers brand new clothing, school supplies, and more—free of charge.

Achievement Rewards: We believe in celebrating success. Students who show improvement in their test scores will receive big prizes, motivating them to strive for excellence.

Advanced Courses: For children ready to take on more, we offer advanced courses in various subjects. Notably, our VP Denise Staley, an expert in event planning, will lead a specialized course teaching students the intricacies of organizing successful events.

Join Us in Making a Difference: Become a Tutor or Mentor with Mildrie's Road House of Literacy

Mildrie’s Road Foundation is dedicated to empowering the youth in our community through our expanded literacy program, Mildrie’s Road House of Literacy. To achieve this mission, we need the support of dedicated professionals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children. Our program not only seeks to improve academic performance but also to provide mentorship and life skills training to students who need it most.

Professional Involvement: We are proud to have airmen from Edwards Air Force Base already involved in tutoring, demonstrating their commitment to community service. However, our vision is to expand this network of support by inviting a diverse group of professionals to join us, including:

Police Officers and Firefighters: Role models who can inspire trust and safety. Doctors and Nurses: Professionals who can promote health and wellness. Social Media Content Creators: Individuals who can teach digital literacy and responsible online behavior.

Hairstylists and Barbers: Experts who can share skills and boost self-esteem. Retired Professionals: Individuals with a wealth of experience and wisdom to share.

Current and Retired Teachers: Educators who bring valuable teaching expertise.

Business Owners and Entrepreneurs: Leaders who can inspire and mentor future innovators.

Athletes and Coaches: Figures who can promote teamwork and perseverance. Mentorship and Support Our program recognizes the significant number of children growing up without a father figure at home.

We are calling on mentors to fill this gap, providing guidance, support, and positive role models for these young individuals. By becoming a mentor, you can help shape a child’s future, offering them the stability and encouragement they need to succeed.

Reading is the most fundamental skill children must learn to succeed in school and in life. But today, 58% of California’s third-graders are below grade level in reading. What’s worse, among low-income students of color, over 75% read below grade level (let that sink in – 75%).
